Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James William “Jim” Clark, a man who served his country with pride and dedication. Jim, who proudly served in the U.S Army, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in OhioHealth Mansfield at the age of 80.
Jim was born in Canton on August 30, 1942. After finishing high school, he felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S Army. Jim served in Germany and Holland from 1961 to 1965, and he was honored to have had the opportunity to serve his country in this way.
After completing his service in the Army, Jim returned home and began his career as an ironworker at local union 550, a job he held for 42 years. Jim took pride in his work and was highly respected by his colleagues for his work ethic and dedication.
Outside of work, Jim was an avid dirt track racing fan and car enthusiast. He loved nothing more than spending time at the track, cheering on his favorite drivers and talking shop with fellow enthusiasts. Jim also loved NBA basketball and was a passionate fan of the sport.
Despite his love of racing and basketball, Jim's true joy in life was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jim and his wife enjoyed traveling together and exploring new places, and they made many wonderful memories throughout their years together.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca; son Mark Clark of Mansfield; daughters Cindy Lonas (Mike) of Mansfield and Angela Marvicsin (Jason) of Dallas, TX; stepchildren Thomas Arnold and Tammy Arnold; grandchildren Michael, Cierra, Mariah, Lantz, Michael; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his 2 fur babies Brut and CoCo; Sister Connie Ruhl (Bill) of Bellville and brothers Tim Clark (Shirley) of Ontario and Mark Clark (Tabitha) of Mansfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Thelma Clark; sister Sue Pitts; brothers Jerry Clark and Chris Clark and stepson Tim Arnold.
Jim’s family will receive friends Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 1-2 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Homes where a service will begin promptly at 2 pm. Military honors will be performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and doctors for all of the care given to Jim during his illness. They would also like to thank attorney John Dilts for the time and help he provided to the family as well.
Jim will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his strong work ethic, his love of racing and basketball, and, most of all, his unwavering love for his family. Rest in peace, Jim, and thank you for your service and your love.
