MANSFIELD: Dianne Osgood, age 82, of Mansfield, a wife of noble character, set about her days with a fierce loyalty to her family and an unending compassion for all people. The joy of her heart was to be “mom” to her 5 daughters, “Bammy” to her 13 grandchildren and “Bammy the Great” to her great granddaughter, all of whom surrounded her when she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on July 21, 2021.
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Dianne was born May 22, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to Caradog and Dorothea (Crockett) Lewis. As a 6 year old girl, Dianne lost her mother to cancer, after which she and her brothers were lovingly nurtured by Caradog and Florence Lewis.
After graduating from Brush High School and attending business school, Dianne met Richard Osgood on a blind date at a bowling alley and “it was a strike!” The two married the following year on June 1, 1963 and together raised 5 daughters, served their church, and served their community. They took a myriad of road trips with their daughters and grandchildren spanning from California to Florida and Northern Canada with countless memories to cherish. In addition, Dianne and Dick enjoyed international travels with one of Dianne’s most treasured destination being Wales, where she tracked the footprints of her father’s childhood.
As a mother and homemaker, Dianne poured into and sacrificed for her children and husband. She would labor through the night to complete household chores in order to maximize time spent with her family during waking hours. She prepared “made to order breakfasts” every morning and always had a meal to offer anyone who entered her home at anytime. At every opportunity, she volunteered to support her daughters’ education, special interests, and sporting endeavors. Her fun loving qualities and quick whit were often on display while playing games with her family and friends. Bammy’s gentle hands started family traditions of preparing homemade applesauce, gingerbread houses, cherry pies, and a host of other favorites that were shared during family gatherings.
Dianne was a prayer warrior and her love for Christ was the driving force behind her ability to tirelessly serve others. Blessed with the spiritual gift of charity, Dianne was drawn to those less fortunate and spiritually lost. For countless years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, volunteered at the Youth for Christ Teen Center, ministered at the Salvation Army in a variety of capacities, served on several mission trips to Haiti, and hosted a Bible study in her home for over 25 years. Dianne’s presence was always cherished. Her compassion flowed effortlessly and her kind words and loving hugs always created a safe space for those who needed it most.
As her family’s matriarch, Dianne leaves a legacy of unconditional love, Godly wisdom, and service for His Kingdom that has powerfully influenced and will continue to span multiple generations. Her children have always, and will always, call her Blessed.
She is survived by her daughter Dana (Jay) Byrd of Ontario and their children Allison (Joshua, and their daughter Ella), Jacob, Seth, and Elizabeth; daughter Susan (Jeff) Winnett of Atlanta, GA and their children Caroline, Joshua, and Jordan; daughter Kristi (Brad) Pfau of Granville and their children Maria, Timothy, Matthew, Andrew, and Samuel; daughter Beth (Shawn) Masterson of Cincinnati and their daughter Margaret; and daughter Deanne “PI” Osgood of Mansfield. Also surviving is Dianne’s lifelong friend, Sandra Berry, who was like a sister to her.
In addition to her parents, Dianne was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Osgood and brothers Crad and Robert Lewis.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Berean Baptist Church (2145 Middle Bellville Rd in Mansfield) where a memorial service celebrating Dianne’s life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Barry Lawrence, Dianne’s dear friend, will speak, and a private burial will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park. Contributions in Dianne’s memory to the Salvation Army can be made at the service or mailed to: Salvation Army, 47 South Main Street, Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
We, the family, would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Waterford, Lisa Emerson, and Southern Care Hospice for the outstanding care of our mom and Bammy.
