Christopher John Engelman, age 39 of Lexington, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Avita Hospital in Ontario following a courageous battle with Covid-19. He leaves behind his beloved wife Brenda and daughter Elizabeth in addition to countless friends and family members.
Chris was born in Parma, Ohio on January 30, 1982. He was the second son of Robert Engelman & Cathy Bilica and grew up in Brunswick with his brother Brian. He was a 2000 graduate of Brunswick High School. He attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he met his wife Brenda Dolland. In pursuit of a career in music, he moved to Los Angeles where he earned a degree in Recording Engineering from Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA.
Chris had many passions and pursuits. He excelled in his career and was loved and respected by his coworkers. While working at Scioto Country Club in Upper Arlington he developed a strong passion for all things wine and he loved sharing his knowledge with others. He poured his passion for wine into becoming a Certified Sommelier, which led him to his dream job working for Heidelberg Distributing in their Wine Trends department.
Chris was a beautiful, kind soul who loved life. He was a wonderful father and husband who loved his family and fur babies dearly. He was a genuine person who had a special way of connecting with others and was a friend to all. He was a talented athlete, a gifted musician, and a deep thinking philosopher who cared tremendously about making this planet a better place for all of us. Chris had an enthusiasm for life that was felt by everyone around him and he always sought to live life to the fullest. He could instantly brighten a room with his smile, comedic timing, and sense of humor. Chris was a truth seeker, a brilliant writer, and a creative spirit. He was truly one of a kind.
As a father, he was a loving, caring, and playful mentor, while remaining a blend of teacher and friend to Ellie—his little “Peanut” with whom he loved to play Mario Kart. He enjoyed playing the guitar, drums, and composing music. Other hobbies included woodworking, gardening, glass blowing, and personalizing gifts for family and friends. He was a modern Renaissance man and he will be dearly missed.
Chris was a member of the Masonic York Lodge #563 in Worthington, OH and the Masonic Culver City - Foshay Lodge #467, F.& A.M. in Los Angeles, CA and enjoyed fraternity with his brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Brenda Engelman of Lexington; 8-year-old daughter Elizabeth “Ellie” Engelman of Lexington; his brother Brian Engelman (Amanda) of Louisville, KY; father Bob Engelman (Dina) of Brunswick; his mother’s widower Joseph Schenke of Seville; parents-in-law David & Diane Dolland of Galion; brothers-in-law Matt Dolland (Sara) and niece Claire of Nashville, TN; Chris Dolland of Austin, TX; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, friends, and his pets: Leo the dog, Finn the cat, and Snowball the hamster.
He was preceded in death by his mother Cathy L. (Bilica) Schenke on February 26, 2020.
A private funeral will be led by Celebrant Dave Roberts with Masonic Services by Venus Lodge #152 F&AM. Chris’s final resting place will be in the Masonic section of Mansfield Memorial Park in Ontario. A celebration of life service will be arranged at a future date and time.
