Evelyn Taylor
August 12, 2020
Evelyn Ruth Taylor, a native of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, was born January 10th, 1921. Evelyn was the daughter of the late Loree and Fred Brown, cherished sister of Eldon, Buford, and Freeda, beloved wife of the late The Reverend Doctor Alva Taylor and mother of Alan and David Taylor.
Evelyn graduated from Mt. Gilead High School and attended Muskingum University. More than this, Evelyn devoted much of her life to the members of the United Methodist Church, frequently moving with her family to serve different communities throughout greater Ohio. Evelyn was a voracious reader and a loving wife and mother, as well as a talented singer, piano player, quilter and writer. Evelyn was not only known for the beautiful prayers she wrote, but was diligent in her daily journaling throughout the majority of her life, leaving behind a thoughtfully written testimony of her life, observations and reflections. Evelyn had a thoughtful, compassionate and playful personality, never missing a chance for a giggle and always able to count her blessings, no matter what kind of day she was having. She was a great listener who always had a way of calming one's fears or stresses and never missed a chance to remind her family of her love for and faith in them. With her amazing memory and attention to detail, she had a deep well of stories she loved to share with her loved ones. Whoever walked in her door remarked at how warm, fun, cheeky, and beautiful she was and there was no doubt that throughout her 76 years of marriage, she was Alva's "Crown Jewel".
Evelyn Taylor is survived by her two sons, Alan R. of John's Creek, Georgia and David R. of Simsbury, Connecticut; foster daughter, Julie of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services for the family were held at Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria followed by burial at Mansfield Memorial Park, Mansfield.
