MANSFIELD: June Glasscock was a Philippians Christian. She would always strive to imitate Christ’s humility, Paul’s example of living, and conducting herself in a manner worthy of the Gospel. Remembered for her sweet and kind spirit and allowing the love of the Lord to shine through her, her every telephone conversation concluded with “goodbye for now.”
It is only “Goodbye for now” as June passed into the Lord’s care November 2, 2021 from Magnolia Terrace in Galion. She was 89.
Born August 8, 1932 to parents Robert W. and Alma (Hurrell) Green, she was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1950. June was a gifted artist and sketcher, and early in life worked as a window dresser with JCPenney in downtown Mansfield.
She later accepted a position with Therm-O-Disc and worked 30 years in the production department and retired as secretary in the disc department.
June was a charter member of Woodville Grace Brethren Church. And when her daughter refused to stay in the primary Sunday school, she decided it was time to start teaching. She would eventually teach the two- and three-year-olds for generations, capturing their attention and in 45 minutes ensuring that crafts, a sound Bible lesson and a measure of love went home with generations of children. She also served the church as Junior Choir director, Christmas Pageant director, vocal soloist, helped the church with poster promotions, building renovations design, and interior design through her work as a seamstress sewing draperies. Not one to be front and center, June was a “Titus Woman” who, by mentoring young women in the faith, impacted many.
Later in life she attended First Alliance Church.
A gifted soprano vocalist, June was not classically trained; her voice was a gift from God. Though she enjoyed sewing, her world revolved around her family. June never missed an activity of her daughter or grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Thompson of Mansfield, grandchildren Megan (Craig) Shipper of Ashland and Cal (Jena) Thompson of Mansfield, great-grandchildren Makenzie and Izabelle and Paisleigh, along with a sister-in-law Sharon Green of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Glasscock in 2018, as well as her son-in-law Robert Allen “Al” Thompson in 2019. Also deceased is a brother Joe Green.
Though no formal service will be held at this time, it is her family’s desire that you remember her kind and sweet spirit in your heart, and pay forward her kindness. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is serving her family with private interment in Mansfield Memorial Park.
June’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Magnolia Terrace for the loving care she received while in their care!
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the missionary work of Steve Kern in Germany. Make checks payable: Encompass World Partners and mail to Snyder Funeral Homes, PO Box 3085, Mansfield, OH 44904.
