Mario Kenjuan Tufts-Davison Sr., age 51, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following a car accident in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on September 19, 1974, in Mansfield, Ohio, to LaMonte Davison Sr. and the late Dorothy Jane Tufts. A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Mario was a beloved son, father, brother, grandfather, coach, mentor, and friend whose presence touched countless lives.
Affectionately known as "Flip" or "Flipper" by his family and close friends, Mario was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Class of 1993. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mario was a man who wore many hats throughout his life. Most recently, working with school-age children through A Beautiful Mind. While his career was important to him, Mario's greatest passion was working with young people and helping them discover their potential.
Mario was also an entrepreneur and devoted much of his time to mentoring and coaching young athletes. He encouraged the youth he worked with to push themselves, believe in themselves, and strive to be the best they could be. To many of the young people whose lives he touched, he was simply known as "Coach Mario"-a title he was incredibly proud to carry.
His love for sports was evident throughout his life. Mario refereed multiple sports and was supporting sports programs throughout Mansfield and Columbus. Whether he was on the court, on the field, behind the scenes, or cheering from the sidelines, Mario was always involved. He could walk into a gym anywhere in the area and be greeted by everyone.
Sports were also a cherished part of his family life. Football and basketball were a regular part of the household, and Mario took great pride in watching his sons participate and excel in athletics. He loved sports, but even more than the games themselves, he loved the relationships, lessons, and opportunities they created for young people.
Mario's greatest legacy will not only be found in his accomplishments, but in the people, he encouraged, mentored, coached, and loved. His impact on the youth he worked with will continue through the lessons he taught and the lives he helped shape.
Mario was preceded in death by his grandparents: Emma Tufts, Alton and Queen Davison; his aunts: Pat Linzy and Sonya Taylor-Wren; his uncles: Alton "Boot" Davison, Adrian Davison, Jesse, Eddie "Duke," and Grady Tufts; and other beloved family members who will forever remain in his memory.
Mario leaves to cherish his memory his parents: LaMonte and Cathy; his children: Nyla, Mario Jr. (Madison), and LaCario; his grandchildren: Nevaeh, Jasmine, and Gabriel; his siblings: Jazmyn, LaCario (Tameshia), and LaMonte II "Andre"; his nieces and nephews: Dorothy, Keialey, Ankailo, Jaylen, Kyree, Nikara(Cora), Solomon, Lamonte, Jaquae, and Queen; his grandmother, Dorothy; his aunts: Mary "Frog" (Mark), Gloria (Edward), and Tammy (Ralph); his uncles: Keith (Michelle) and Eddie (Ora Jean); his special cousin, Shannon (Chris), who was raised alongside him as a sister; and numerous cousins, extended family members. He also leaves behind Jillian, the mother of his daughter Nyla, and NJ, Nyla's brother, who will forever cherish his memory.
Among those who will deeply miss Mario are his special friends: Shawn Colvin, Shawn Vickers, Larry Strong, Chris Hout and the countless young people, families, athletes, coworkers, and friends whose lives he touched throughout his journey.
Mario will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of family, his passion for sports, his entrepreneurial spirit, and most of all, the time and energy he devoted to helping young people. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the many lives he influenced as Coach Mario.
