Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Calvin Day II, of Mansfield, Ohio, at the age of 78, went to be home with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Ohio Health Mansfield, following a brief illness. He was born on September 13,1943, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Malcolm C. and Annabelle L. (Burley) Day.
While serving in the Youth for Christ program he met Linda J. (Boyce). They were wed November 25, 1967, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. Together they shared 54 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, Chad and Jason.
Chuck loved to work, choosing not to retire. He started his 25 years at Kemper Insurance in Mansfield, Ohio, as an insurance underwriter and worked his way up to Operations Manager. In 1993, he and Linda bought the Dairy Queen in Ashland, Ohio. Each of their sons found their wives during their seven years at Dairy Queen. In 2000, he and Chad built 23 Self Storage in Lewis Center, Ohio, from the ground up. Up until three weeks ago, he was still making the hour and fifteen-minute drive to work several days a week. While his boys attended Mansfield Christian School, Chuck served as Director of the Lake Placid Conference Center in Florida and as a member of the School Board.
Chuck was blessed to enjoy the freedom to travel, showing his family the country as they took trips in the motor home every summer, but his favorite place to visit has always been Florida. He loved it so much that he purchased a special place for him and Linda to spend time during Ohio’s cold months. Avid cruisers, Chuck and Linda toured all of the Caribbean, and into Mexico during their 20 plus cruises with friends and family. There are lots of wonderful memories of those times.
Through his travels he was able to serve the Lord on numerous short term mission trips from Brazil, to the Dominican Republic, and even Canada. He would use Atomic FireBall jawbreakers to break the ice with the people he met, sending them with teams to different countries throughout the world even when he wasn’t able to join them. Chuck was a member of Grace Church in Ashland for 22 years. There he served on the Mission Commission and in the cafe on Sunday mornings.
Chuck is survived by his wife Linda, sons Chad (MaryBeth) Day and Jason (Maria) Day, grandchildren Ethan, Trenton, Andrew, Lincoln, and Jude Day, brother Tom (Dana) Day and their family, as well as his beloved Boxer Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his many Boxer babies.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made in Chuck’s name to Short Term Missions at Grace Church.
Family will receive visitors from 9:30 am -11:00 am at Grace Church, 1144 West Main Street, Ashland, Ohio. A funeral service honoring Chuck’s life will follow immediately. A private family burial will be held at a later time.
Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Chuck’s family, and encourage you to leave condolences, share a memory, and watch the Memorial Video on his Tribute Page.
