Obituary
MANSFIELD: Adaline Marie Schlegel, 98, went home to meet Jesus on February 25, 2021 at her home in Mansfield, Ohio surrounded by all of her adoring children.
She was born Adaline Marie Wilging on November 30, 1922. Addie, like many of her nine siblings, chose to remain in the Mansfield area her entire life. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1941. Following her graduation, she and her three sisters opened a women’s clothing store, The Wilging Shop, in downtown Mansfield. Many years later she found herself again working downtown with her sisters, this time at her sister’s new downtown business, The Health Food Shop.
Adaline was married to Charles H. Schlegel in 1946 after Chuck returned from military service overseas. Chuck was employed at Mansfield Graphics for his entire career. They established their home in Mansfield and celebrated the births of their two daughters and two sons. Addie enjoyed gathering with her siblings and their families on holidays and summer weekends. Through those years, Addie and Chuck raised their children with great care and love, an example their children have tried to respect and honor. All can agree Addie was also a wonderful homemaker and an extraordinary caregiver. For nineteen years she cared for her husband, Chuck, who had Alzheimer’s disease. He never spent one day outside of his home. Other family members also called upon her for home health care concerns.
Adaline was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years in 1994. She was reunited with him into eternity 28 years later. She will also join one unborn child in heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Catherine Wilging and her in-laws, Florence (Stecker) and Harry Schlegel, by her infant sister Viola, her brother Harold and his wife Mary, her sister Lillian and her husband Harold Bolesky, her brother Merle, her sister Eleanor and her husband Sam Korday, her brother Stanley and his wife Ginger, her brother Robert and his wife Ruth, and by her sister Catherine and her husband Harlan Laser. She is survived by her brother Bruce and his wife Sondra of Mansfield, and sister-in-law Dayle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She is also survived by her four children, Betsy (Ted) Fraker of Columbus, Scott (Bonnie) Schlegel of Cleveland, Nancy (Nick) Raptou of Columbus, Bruce (Laurie) Schlegel of Mansfield and her nine grandchildren, Teigen (fiancée Brittney Sito) Fraker of Los Angeles, Tysen Fraker of Columbus, Trevor (Elizabeth) Fraker of Los Angeles; Caitland (Stephan) Sharp of Nashville, Ty (Megan) Schlegel of Austin; Isaac and Alizé Raptou of Columbus; Ian Schlegel of Mansfield, and Payne (fiancée Madeline Hamilton) Schlegel of Mansfield. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Sadie and Crew Sharp of Nashville; Anderson, Carter and Lila Schlegel of Austin; and Charlie Fraker of Los Angeles.
Adaline’s strong and committed Christian faith guided her throughout her life as she humbly served others. Her devotion, endurance and skill at caring for those in need was clearly evident as was the source of her strength: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13). Her daily marching orders were based upon one of her favorite verses: “This is the day the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). Well done, good and faithful servant!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ADDIE !! WE LOVE YOU.
The Schlegel family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful and caring hospice team.

Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
