Ruth E. “Bobbie” Hay of Mansfield, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Lexington Court Care Center, following an extended illness.
Bobbie was born in Leon, Kentucky on April 22, 1931, to James Steve Barber and Dolly Beatrice Shepherd Jones. She was a preacher’s daughter and loved singing gospel music. She married the love of her life, John Hay, on October 2, 1948, and they shared 58 years of marriage. Bobbie was an avid bingo player and loved taking gambling trips, and she loved to cook.
Surviving are Bobbie’s children, Larry (Becky) Hay of Chesnee, SC, Karen (Ronnie) Rogers of Flatwoods, KY and son, Jonathon (Kimberly) Hay of Lexington; granddaughter, Misty Brackett (John Eckels) of Mansfield; great-granddaughter, Karissa (Dan) Jackman of Lexington, great-grandson, Kyle Haynes, and great-granddaughter, Kelsey (Matt) Keasal and their son, Grayson; sister, Dottie Williams; and brother, Elbert Barber. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; three brothers, Chester Barber, Charlie Barber, and Kurt Barber all of KY; and two sisters, Betty Hay of KY and Della Carroll of Mansfield.
Calling hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4: 00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Werner Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield. Calling hours will be at 11:00 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, with Rev. Mel Schroder reading her obituary and Pastor Earl Tackett officiating. Burial will take place in Mansfield Memorial Park.
