Robert Louis Schoenman, age 96, spent his first day in Heaven on Christmas Day 2020 following a stay at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with complications from Covid-19. He was reunited with his wife Shirley and celebrated the birth of his Lord and Savior with the angels.
Bob was born in Mansfield on July 30, 1924 to Charles & Anna (Molt) Schoenman. After graduating from Mansfield Senior, he served four years in the Army Air Corps and trained to be a flight engineer. On December 3, 1944, he married Shirley Eileen Earhart.
Bob was the former owner and operator of Richland Screw Machine Products in Mansfield along with his brothers from 1944-1987 at which time he sold the business to his son, Randy. He was a member of Marion Avenue Grace Brethren and later Berean Baptist Church. Bob was very active in the church and served as deacon for both congregations and was involved with Sunday school, Bible studies, and led Jet Cadets at Grace Brethren. He spent several summers in Manistee, Michigan visiting his daughter, Vickee, and became very fond of his church family at the First Congregational Church in Onekama, Michigan.
His hobbies included golfing, fishing, boating, swimming, snow skiing, and—most especially—spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids who called him “Grandpa Bobby.” Bob will be remembered for his smile and his ornery but good-natured spirit.
He is survived by his son Randy (Shirlee) Schoenman of Mansfield; daughter Vickee (Bill) Sawhill of Kaleva, MI; grandchildren Greg (Lyn) Schoenman, Betsy Koestler, Julee (Don) Sims, Andrew (April) Sawhill, Patrick (Kate) Sawhill and Melissa (Jason) Bray; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Schoenman on March 24, 2012. Also deceased are his parents Charles & Anna Schoenman and brothers Charles Schoenman, Dean Schoenman, and Kenneth Schoenman.
His final resting place will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. A celebration of life service will be planned in 2021. Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Bob’s family and invite you to share a memory or message of condolence with them at SnyderFuneralHomes.com
