WESTERVILLE: Shannon Ray Tackett, formerly of Mansfield, peacefully passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, from his Westerville home with his sister by his side.
Shannon Ray Tackett was born in Mansfield on June 4, 1964, the son of John Ray Tackett and Carol (Conley) Tackett Pyers. He was a 1983 graduate of Madison High School.
Shannon worked as a Crane Operator 37 years for AK Steel where his coworkers gave him the nickname Shaq. Any of his work mates would tell you he was the best crane operator they had ever seen and he enjoyed his work. He was protective of his little sister and could be described as a Gentle Giant.
Shannon cherished his dogs and was an avid music lover. He loved tattoos, and added as many as possible. Shannon will be remembered for his kindness.
He is survived by his sister and roommate Robin Tackett of Westerville; his mother & stepfather Carol & Michael Pyers of Mansfield; and his son Shane Tackett of Merritt Island, FL.
Shannon was preceded in death by his father John Ray Tackett in 1991.
His family will receive friends 12:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Snyder Funeral Homes (2553 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield OH 44904) where a funeral service honoring his life will begin at 2:00 PM. Pastor Robert O’Brian will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park cemetery in Ontario where Shannon will be laid to rest beside his father.
