Obituary
Franklin Hager was born 30 March 1935 in Seth WV to Dell and Lillian Hager who have preceded him in death. He was one of 11 children. Franklin passed from this earthly life at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio on the 25 August 2022. Franklin is preceded in death by three children, Ronald Hager, age 40, Danny Hager age 37 of Mansfield, Ohio and Lynn Dent age 66 of Grifton, North Carolina. Two brothers, Howard Hager and Carl Hager of West Virginia preceded Franklin in death as well as sisters Pauline Bell and Judy Angel of West Virginia. Surviving to continue to carry on the Hager family name and traditions are sisters Nadine Burgess, Christine Pauley and Sandra Wilburn of West Virginia and brothers Bill Hager, Fred Hager of Ohio and George Hager of West Virginia. These 11 children have a strong bond and will continue to carry their strong bond into the future for their families. Franklin is survived by his daughter Dawn Baker and son-in-law Larry Baker of Montclair, Virginia; his daughters in-law Vickie Hager and Sherri Bell both of Mansfield, Ohio and son in-law Bill Dent of Grifton, North Carolina. Franklin was blessed to have seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Weeks before opening day of hunting season Franklin could be found (or not found) preparing his weapons of choice and deer stands, field cameras, blinds and clothing for the big day. Morning and evening hunting were the norm unless the cold weather began to creep in. Later in years the morning hunting took back seat to the nice warm bed with a quilt made by the love of his life. Lake Erie on a boat and the surrounding lakes near Mansfield were also some of his favorite places. His children fondly remember being taught to hunt and fish at a young age all except his daughter Dawn who wanted no part of it. His wife Jewell could hold her own during hunting season and would often join her boys and Frank in the woods or on the riverbank. Fried fish and deer stew were a staple in the Hager household. Franklin loved auctions, yard sales and thrift stores. He would often buy things at yard sales and resale in his own yard sale, he loved doing this. A table by the edge of the road once ended up in his yard sale and he made quite the profit. These were fun things for him. Someone’s junk became his treasure. Franklin took early retirement from General Motors after working 25 years. He would begin his next and most important journey in life serving God. As one of his grandchildren said, “Grandpa walked the talk.” He was a member of the Church of Christ in Corning for many, many years. He loved his Corning church family with all his heart. He was a Christian long before joining the Corning Church of Christ, but it was there that God placed him. Reading the Bible was done every day by him in his home and studying God’s word was very important to him. He loved to talk about the Bible. A shoe salesman by the name of Mr. Smith led him to the Lord and he never looked back. Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Tuesday August 30, 2022, at the J.E. Humphrey funeral Home, Shawnee, Graveside services for Franklin will be held at a later date in Mansfield, Ohio
