James "Jim" Philip Brown Sr., 84 of Ashland, passed away, Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born on July 30, 1936, in Ontario, Ohio to the late Philip and Eva (nee Wilcox) Brown. He served in the United States Army during the late fifties.
Jim married the love of his life, Dorothy Slabaugh, on Sept 21, 1958.
He worked for many years as a mechanic and truck driver. Jim was a member of Ashland Worship Center where he served as an elder for many years. Jim would always be sure to smile and tell you ‘‘Smile, Jesus loves you!” He enjoyed working outside in his garden, planting flowers and landscaping. He raised chickens and birds and enjoyed fishing. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, married for 62 years, Jim will be deeply missed by his daughters: Tammy Brown of Gardner, Kansas; Sherry (Arthur) Donley of Mansfield; and Valarie (Michael) Tyree of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; sons: Joey (Darla) Brown of Ashland and Nathan (Tenaya) Brown of Jeromesville; a daughter-in-law Dee Yoder; twenty grandchildren: Joseph Brown, Rebecca (Mikael) Barnheart, Christopher Brown, Justin Brown, Taylor Brown, Austin (Adriana) Brown, Zachary Brown, Braden Brown, Nicholas Brown, Gavin Donley, Maeve Donley, Fiona Donley, Gillian Donley, Isla Donley, Spencer (Faith) Tyree, Sheldon Tyree, Christian Tyree, Mikayla Tyree, Lincoln Tyree, Isaac Brown; and one great-grandchild, Lilyan Barnheart.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sons: Anthony Brown and James Philip Brown, Jr.; sisters: Evelyn Wycoff, Elnora Crawford, Phyllis Shuster, and Mary Murrell; brother David Brown; granddaughter Emily Brown; and son-in-law Paul Brown.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Ashland Worship Center, 1420 Cottage St., Ashland, OH 44805, with Pastor Ted Mason officiating. A graveside service will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park, 2507 Park Ave West, Mansfield, OH 44906. Friends and family may call Saturday, prior to the funeral, at the church from 9:00 am to 11:00 a.m.
