Obituary
MANSFIELD: Surrounded by his family, Murvil Ray Crawford passed into the arms of his Savior on Thursday afternoon, June 29, 2023. He was 90.
He was born on April 2, 1933 to parents William and Lulu (Jones) Crawford in Clearfield, Kentucky. After he graduated from Morehead High School in 1953, he went on to join the US Airforce and fought during the Korean war. In 1957 Murvil then transitioned to serve in the reserves with the 179th tactical unit until 1966. During his service he was stationed in Japan and worked on F86 aircrafts, earned the Small Arms Expert and Good Conduct Medals for his dedication and hard work. Outside of his service, Murvil worked as a tool and die maker for General Motors, where he enjoyed working for many years until his retirement in 1995.
On August 7, 1973, he was blessed with the marriage to Susan (Howell) Crawford who shared 38 wonderful committed years of marriage until she passed away in 2011. Now they are together again.
With his Faith being a priority, Murvil was a longtime member of the Mansfield First Alliance Church. He enjoyed fellowshipping with his fellow believers and was an avid reader of his Bible.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending as much time in the great outdoors as possible. Whether it was fishing, hunting, or just being in nature- he was in his happy place. As an incredible athlete in high school, and his love of basketball, Murvil carried that passion and skill into adulthood and even played for the Air Force Sabers Basketball Team. He later began playing golf, which he enjoyed very much. Having a large heart throughout life, he even hosted multiple foreign exchange students in home over the years.
He is survived by his children Kevin (Terry) Crawford, Tom (Susan) Crawford, and Catherine Crawford, grandchildren Austin (Beth) Crawford and April Crawford, step-grandchildren Lauren and Reed Tyack, great-grandchildren Dominik Crawford, Izabella Crawford, Lily Crawford, and Isla Crawford, siblings Clarence (Melva) Crawford, Lucile (Lee Roy) Trent, Rose Zell Perkins, and Laura Shelton, sister-in-law Tori (John) Franks, special friend Linda Zirkel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn daughter Laura Crawford, and siblings Wayne Crawford, Clinton Crawford, Clella Crawford, and Clara Hill.
The Crawford family will receive friends on Friday July 7, 2023 from 1- 2 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Murvil’s life will begin immediately at 2 pm. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
