Obituary
Guy Glennis Owens Sr.
September 19, 1948 - December 23, 2020
Guy Glennis Owens, Sr., 72, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born to Alberta Seagraves on September 19, 1948 in Rowan County, Kentucky.
Guy married Goldie Owens for the 2nd and final time on March 2, 1989. We liked to say that he loved her so much he married her twice. Guy had seven children, Michael (Bonita) Owens, Melina Mosier, Timothy Owens, Jackie Owens and Guy Owens all of Mansfield. Amanda (Josh) Walters of Republic, Ohio and Kimberly Hickle formerly of Worthington, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Kelly, Maria, Richard, Stephanie, Gary, Hannah, Dakota, Austin, Tristan, Sarah, Alyssa, Payton, Logan and Austin; and six great grandchildren with one on the way.
Guy was a Vietnam Veteran and fondly referred to as “Big O” by his platoon. Rumor has it that they often said “sing us some George Jones, Big O!”.
Guy worked as a landscaper at Hattery and Chatlain for many years and then as a grinder at Mansfield Foundry before they closed their doors. Once retired he spent his days running his hunting hounds with his cronies, sitting on his porch swing on pretty spring days, enjoying time with his family, his trusty Basset Hound named Flash and his special grand pups, Rosie and Sebastian (Boo). They brought so much joy to his life. Guy loved dogs and he was an avid bird watcher too.
Guy also loved his Lord and Savior and was pretty well known for his beautiful singing at his small family church in Shelby, Ohio. Guy touched the lives of everyone he knew.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie Owens; his children, Michael, Melina, Timothy, Jackie, Guy and Amanda; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, James (Marilyn) Owens; and his nieces, Trelina (Dan) Carmack and Kristy (Ed) Mears.
In addition to his wonderful mother, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Susan Owens-Hickle.
A special thanks from the family goes out to Nurse Pam and the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care of Richland County for taking such good care of Guy. Also, a special thanks to fellow dialysis patient, Stanley. A good friend can help get you through anything. Guy was deeply loved in his life and will be feverently missed for the rest of ours.
Private services will be held for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored the serve the family of Guy Owens.
