Harold Nickell Obituary
Harold R. Nickell, 93, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
Harold was born on October 29, 1930, in Morehead, Kentucky, the son of William and Addie (Royce) Nickell. He married the love of his life, Maxine (Plank) on July 9, 1949, celebrating 75 years of marriage. Harold retired from General Motors in Mansfield and was an active member of Johnny Appleseed Carving Club.
Harold loved the Lord he preached about, his family he led and provided for, and the people he pastored. Over the course of 55 years of ministry, he pastored Hanna Road Church of God, Light House Chapel, Stiving Road Free Will Baptist and Grace Valley Chapel, and was a current member of New Beginnings Free Will Baptist Church. Harold never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He loved to play the guitar and sing and had an amazing memory of old songs and rhymes from his childhood.
Along with his wife, Maxine Nickell, Harold is survived by four children, Larry (Kathy) Nickell of Sevierville, TN, Rebecca (Brian) Phillips of Mansfield, Sue (Gary) Haney of Shelby, and Sherry (Mike) Wolf of TX; thirteen grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert Nickell, Acey Nickell, and Carl Nickell; three sisters, Olla Mae Alfrey, Callie Jarvis, and Pearl Stephens; two grandsons, Larry Nickell Jr. and Kevin Nickell; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Rose.
Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Crank officiating and his son, Pastor Larry Nickell assisting. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
