Obituary
Marlin “Ike” Kindinger of Mansfield, Ohio, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the age of 89 at his home.
He was born January 28, 1931 in Crestline, OH to Theodore Kindinger, Gladys (Douglas) Kindinger Powell and Step-father Robert Powell.
As a boy he won the soap box derby competition in Mansfield and went on to race at the soap box derby nationals in Akron. He graduated from Madison High School and attended Ohio State University. He then was drafted into the Army to support the military Korean War effort. He married Nancy Riley on March 3, 1951 and they had three children. He loved his family and was a Dad who played card games, planned surprise impromptu trips, and spent focused time with his children. He was co-owner of Charvid Construction Company builders of homes, gas stations and swimming pools around the state. Once retired he moved to Florida where he enjoyed golfing, bowling and the company of good friends. Missing being in construction, he went back to work as a cost estimator on the Tampa Airport Addition as well as Several Shopping Centers and Malls. Marlin moved back to Ohio where he has spent the last 12 years.
He and his wife’s travels include riding elephants in Thailand, visiting family in Japan, and taking many cruises.
Marlin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he and his wife will be remembered for baking several dozen cookies weekly to share with the congregation during coffee and also volunteering with vacation bible school.
He is survived by his three children; Pamela (Roger) Cook of Mansfield, Rhonda (Arnold) Leach of Mansfield, Bruce Kindinger of Fort Worth, TX ; eight grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Richard (Marge) Riley of GA; and his sister-in-law Linda Crum of Florida.
Marlin “Ike” Kindinger is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Lee Kindinger – married 68 years, his parents and brothers, Chuck Kindinger and Gene Kindinger.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1592 Grace St., Mansfield. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Stull officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the Kindinger family.
