MANSFIELD: Cheryl Ann Freel passed away Saturday, February 26, 2023 in Bucyrus Community Hospital following a short illness. She was 78.
She was born November 18, 1944 in Mansfield to James E. and Daphne (Mahan) Smith and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1962.
On January 31, 1970 she married Russell Freel who preceded her in death in 2017. She worked as an insurance agent at Farley Peeples, Reitler, and All State.
Cheryl enjoyed quilting, baking or getting lost in a romance novel. She also was devoted to watching Storyside Church broadcast every Sunday. She had a special place in her heart for her cats, especially Charlie, who was constantly by her side. But above all, she cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by a step son Gordon Freel of Mansfield; grandchildren Sierra, Jared, Jessica, and Jenna; great-grandchildren Graysen, Brookelyn, Rowan, Kinley, Reis, Zandyn and the newest addition Willow; and a sister-in-law Mary Smith of Bellville; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Russell, she was preceded in death by a daughter Tonda Dillon and a brother William Smith of Bellville.
A memorial service honoring Cheryl’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023 in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Friends may call from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
