BELLVILLE: Walter Poth passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in OhioHealth Mansfield. He was 91
He was born October 10, 1930 to parents Ernest & Mary Alice (Nickelson) Poth in Shiloh. He graduated from Union High school with the class of 1950.
Walter first saw Shelba Jean at the Coney Island Diner in Mansfield and it took some convincing for Shelba Jean to go out with him. She finally relented and she took him home to meet her family (She thought there was no way her dad would like him) well to her surprise her dad loved Walter and the two ended up marrying on February 13, 1954. They shared 63 years together until Shelba Jean passed away on January 13, 2018.
Walter worked as a maintenance engineer with H.S. Automotive as well as at Westinghouse for 32 years before retiring in 2000. In spare time, he enjoyed yard work, camping and fishing. He was a hardworking farm guy who loved being outdoors. He kept a large vegetable garden and raised his own meat on the farm having owned cows, hogs and chickens. But above all, Walter cherished his family and would do anything for them.
He is survived by children David E. (Pat) Poth, Richard A. Poth, Stephen W. Poth, and Marcia Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a few great-great grandchild; siblings Harold & Sue Poth and Mary Ellen Grimwood; half siblings Arnold & Kathy Poth and Althea &Bob Bennett.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by son-in-law Ron Thompson; siblings Earnest Poth, Frank Poth and Gladys Grimwood.
A funeral service will be held in Walter’s memory Saturday, November 13, 2021 starting at 11 a.m. with Military Honors performed by the Bellville American Legion Post # 535. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate. Burial will take place privately.
