William J. Stevens, 86, of Mansfield, suddenly went home to be with the Lord Sunday evening, January 3, 2021, at his home. He was born February 7, 1934, in Grahn, Kentucky, to the late Lewis and Ethel (Blevins) Stevens.
Bill retired from Armco Steel where he was a dedicated worker for 42 years and 1 month. He was a member of Belmont Community Church, which he faithfully attended. He loved sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed talking sports with anyone and everyone. Bill loved when family visited and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters, Rosemary (David) Haycook of Lexington, Debra Sargent of Shelby and Tina Ramsey of Mansfield; a son, Thomas (Nancy) Stevens of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Angela (Shane) Patrick, Andrea (Brian) Thomas, Heather (Greg) Mohr, Michael (Angela) Ray, Jaimie (Brian) McAvoy, Joshua (Sara) Ray, and Nathan (Brittney) Deaton; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a brother, Gene (Noma) Stevens of Olive Hill, KY; many nieces and nephews he loved dearly; special friend and neighbor, Carl Hunt; and good friend, Arvin Hawkins. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Bernice Bradley Stevens; daughter, Karen Sue Stevens; parents; brothers, Ralph (Mary) Stevens, Ercil (Joy) Stevens, Carmel (Louise) Stevens and JR (Janet) Stevens; and three sisters, Cleo (Ray) Carroll, Bea (Ernest) Carroll and Kathleen (Tommy) Tipton.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral conducted by Rev. Gary Lambert will follow at 10:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Belmont Community Church.
