MANSFIELD: Marjorie Stanley was fluent in the language of warm hugs, genuine encouragement, and unconditional love. She lived I John 3: 18 “…let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Her every desire was to be actively caring for her family. Whether it was tenderly tending to an elder or lavishing love on the newborns, Marjorie had a servant’s heart.
Her earthly work is now reward as she passed into the Lord’s care Friday, March 19, 2021 from OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was 94.
Born December 24, 1926 in Cleveland to Joe and Emma (Kossuth) Martin, she was graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, and accepted a position as a secretary with New York Central Railroad. It was working at the railroad, that she met the love of her life John Stanley. They were married July 9, 1945, blessed with a family, and Marjorie took to the noble task of raising their family.
Marjorie was happiest when she was with her family, and holding a baby was one of her greatest joys. Marjorie was crazy about babies!
She was an excellent cook. Her double crust apple pie was rolled perfectly without a rolling pin – only a jelly jar – and her hand-stuffed cabbage rolls and soups will not be duplicated.
Remembered for her phenomenal memory – amazing memory, really – Marjorie could recall 70 years of phone numbers, or prices, or even what she was wearing at an event. She leaves a legacy with people as one who was considerate, thoughtful, and caring – involved to the point of making others feel special. To know Marjorie was to know someone who cared.
She is survived by daughters Judy Harn of Columbus, Susan (Cal) Packard of Lexington, and Nancy Evilsizor of Mansfield; a son Jim Stanley of Plainfield, IL; grandchildren Christan Allison, Charity Davies, Sarah McCready, Jen Wiand, and Rachel Stanley; six great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband John William Stanley on November 20, 2007. Also deceased are a son John Richard Stanley; grandson Josh Harn; sons-in-law Joe Harn and Richard Evilsizor; and her brother, WWII Purple Heart recipient Howard Martin.
The Stanley family will receive friends Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Her son-in-law Cal Packard and son Pastor Jim Stanley will officiate. The service will be live streamed on the Snyder Funeral Homes Lex Ave Facebook location page. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Contributions in her memory to Child Evangelism Fellowship may be made at the funeral home.
