Obituary
Jonathan Bruce Holcomb, age 73, passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, at his home, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born June 9, 1948, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of the late Janet (French) and Hansel Hanley Holcomb.
Jon was an amazing, diverse man, going from high-level executive to full-time landowner. He retired on January 1, 2008, from Chrysler Corporation and began his second career on 45 acres outside of Gambier. It was a true outdoor haven and his dream will be treasured and enjoyed by generations to come.
Jon had an unending curiosity for others; he never lost his love of learning about people. He was the very definition of a “people person”. He was an eternal optimist, seeing the bright side in every situation. Jon’s family was of the utmost importance to him. Raising his children in Michigan, and living and traveling internationally, they created many memorable experiences together. He was very involved in his children’s activities and his grandchildren brought him great joy. During his retirement, he enjoyed hosting extended family and friends at his property in Gambier. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Jon are forever grateful for his love and life.
On June 12, 1971, he married his best friend and true love, Brenda Bogner, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Jon is survived by three children, Brett (Sarah) Holcomb, Matthew (Johanna) Holcomb and Ashley (Rachel Milowski) Holcomb; four grandchildren, Braden, Connor, Leah and Benedikt Holcomb; two brothers, Stephen (Hollis) Holcomb and Gregory Holcomb; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Drew Holcomb; sister-in-law, Joan Holcomb; and uncle, Lafayette (Tacy) French.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Knox County or the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
