Melvin Gibson Jr., 83, of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord Wednesday evening, May 12, 2021, at Liberty Nursing Center in Mansfield. He was born March 1, 1938, in Wrigley, Kentucky, to the late Melvin Curtis and Opal (Sergent) Gibson.
Mel lived in the Mansfield area since 1965. He worked for over 35 years at Artesian Industries, leaving his job when he wife, Zelpha, became ill and he became her full-time caregiver. Mel was a loving husband and father who showed his family what a dedicated hard-working attitude can bring to your life. Mel loved the Lord and lived his life following His path.
He is survived by a daughter, Sherry L. (Donald P.) Gibson Grubb of Mansfield; step-sons, Ronald (Geri) Gibson and Jimmy (Peggy) Gibson, both of Mansfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a step son-in-law, Richard Marshall of Clinchco, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zelpha M. Brewer Gibson; step-daughter, Judy Marshall; and sister, Elizabeth Barnett.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
