LEXINGTON: Tammy Hildebrand, age 52, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was blessed to be surrounded by family during her final days following a very recent brain tumor diagnosis. After a courageous fight, she is now pain-free but will be missed dearly by many.
Tammy Jo Spellman was born April 28, 1969, in Mansfield the daughter of David Lewis & Saundra Sue (Johnson) Spellman and was a 1988 graduate of Clear Fork High School. In the 1990s she struck up a friendship with Jim Hildebrand who came to Miller Meats where Tammy worked to get lunch from the deli counter most days. The pair married on June 19, 1999, and honeymooned in Niagara Falls.
Tammy dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. She was organized, caring, and kind. Not one to sit still, Tammy was always on the move looking for deals at a thrift store or garage sale. She enjoyed attending hockey games and traveling around Ohio with her family. Her love language was quality time and she thoroughly enjoyed being with the special people in her life—most especially her husband and kids. As someone who always put others first, Tammy will be remembered for her generosity and her selflessness.
Tammy was a very active member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #5101 in Lexington and was the guard officer for District 10. She had a big heart for our country’s servicemen and veterans and was a champion for them and for anyone who had a need. She was the first to offer her help in all situations. Tammy also became an advocate for breast cancer awareness and early detection during and after her battle with breast cancer.
She is survived by her husband James “Jim” Hildebrand of Lexington, son Franklin Hildebrand (girlfriend Emily), daughter Hailey Hildebrand, siblings Sherry Spellman-Moran (Dave) of Mansfield and John Spellman of Lexington, mother Saundra Spellman of Lexington, mother-in-law Jane Hildebrand of Ontario, grandmother-in-law Georgia “GG” Swisher of Lexington, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and her comfort cancer buddy, Goldie the cat.
Tammy was preceded in death by her father David Spellman, father-in-law Les Hildebrand, grandparents Lewis & Bernadina Spellman and John & Wilma Johnson.
Her family will receive friends 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Avenue in Mansfield, where a funeral service honoring her life will begin at 2:00 PM officiated by Celebrant Dave Roberts and beginning with a tribute by the VFW Auxiliary District 10. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Contributions in her memory can be made to the Richland County Veterans Service Commission (please make checks out to: Veterans Honor Grounds) and brought to her services or sent to them at: 597 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, OH 44905.
