MANSFIELD: Grandpas bring a little wisdom, happiness, warmth, and love to everyone they touch- and Fred was truly a grandpa to all.
Frederick “Fred” Norman Strohminger was reunited in Heaven with the love of his life Mildred, on Saturday evening, December 18, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family. He was 84.
He was born February 7, 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio to parents Floyd and Pauline (McElroy) Strohminger. Fred proudly served his country by joining the US Army and fought valiantly in the Korean war. He was a proud patriot throughout his life, and will always be remembered for his dedication to his country. After his time in the military Fred worked at AK Steel as a crane operator. He worked there for 39.5 years before retiring in 1994.
In spare time, he took pleasure in all thing’s firearm related, specifically Beretta, but above all, Fred cherished spending quality time with his grandsons John and Robert fishing and target shooting.
He is survived by his daughter Vicki Ratliff, grandchildren John Ratliff, Robert Ratliff, Cody Strohminger, Caden Strohminger, Shane Tackett, and Amelia Mulvane, siblings Judy Simmons and Terry Strohminger, and many beloved friends, including Jennie Featherham.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Mildred (Shadix) Strohminger, son Rick Strohminger, and daughter Sandra Strohminger.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Fred’s life will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 at noon. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
