BELLVILLE: Alwine Stull was a pillar of strength. Her experiences at a young age included her escape from communist concentration camps, immigrating to a new country, learning a new language and a new way of life. It was these experiences and more that helped form an inner strength that carried her throughout her life.
A woman devoted to her family, friends, community and church, Alwine Stull, 80, of Bellville passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 18, 2022 following an extended illness.
Alwine was born in Crvenka Yugoslavia, a German-speaking village, in 1941. At the end of WW II she was interned in a Communist concentration camp along with her mother and younger brother. They escaped and eventually made it to a refugee camp in Munich. They immigrated to the United States in 1951, living first in Latty, Ohio, then Mansfield.
She graduated from Mansfield Senior in 1959 and attended Wittenberg College.
She married James Frederick Stull July 11, 1964. They raised their two daughters in Bellville, Ohio where they called home. Alwine had one of a kind unassuming smile. She and Fred complimented each other so well.
For 7 years, Alwine worked for the Bellville Star. A familiar face and friendly personality, Alwine worked at the Bellville Library for numerous years where she later retired. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading and she enjoyed knitting.
Following her retirement from the Richland County Public Library, Alwine volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate through Richland County. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served for 50 years. She served on the church council and was active in numerous church groups over the years.
After retirement Alwine and Fred enjoyed traveling especially with dear friends on bus trips taking them on all sorts of adventures.
She will be remembered for her strength, kindness to others, her joyful laugh, and her love for family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters Lorie Stull of Boston, MA, and Lindsay and Paul Rados of Fairview Park; her granddaughter Amelia Kate Rados, honorary granddaughter Caroline Worner, a brother Paul and Lynette Diener of Raleigh, NC and their children Leslee, Stacee and Brooke, brother-in-law Mike Stoughton and his children Todd, Jennifer and Jeff.
In addition to her parents, Alwine was preceded in death by her husband Fred Stull, and her sister Peggy Stoughton.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 11 am-12 pm in the community room at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bellville. Social distance and mask guidelines will be observed. Her memorial service will follow at 12 noon in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Debbie Pinnegar will officiate. Private interment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
