Obituary for Maryann T. Wilcheck
Wilcheck, Maryann T. (nee Kahler) of Findlay, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 5, 2021, at the age of 86.
Maryann was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 1, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. and Mary F. Kahler, her brother, Edward C. Kahler Jr., and her beloved husband of 54 years, Gerard A. Wilcheck. She is survived by her children, Mary (Jerry) Riha of Thompson, Ohio, Jeffrey Wilcheck of Columbus, Ohio, Anne Wilcheck of Columbus, Ohio, Mark (Nancy) Wilcheck of Mansfield, Ohio, Julie (Paul) Moyer of Findlay, Ohio, her sister, Joyce K. (William A.) Gordon of Glencoe, Illinois, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Maryann graduated from St. Augustine's Academy in Lakewood Ohio in 1952, and attended St. Mary's-of-the-Woods College in Indiana from 1952 to 1955, majoring in Biology. She was a research technologist at Western Reserve University Medical School and the Cleveland Clinic until 1958. During that time, she met and married her husband, Jerry. She stayed home to care for the first four of her children, and in 1962, began teaching first grade at Assumption School in Brook Park, Ohio. In 1965, the family moved near Mansfield, Ohio, where she taught at St. Peter's Catholic Church's parish school from 1966 to 1974. In 1967, a fifth child was welcomed into the family. In 1971, Maryann earned a B.S. in Education from Ashland University. In 1974, she joined the Mansfield City School System and taught at Hedges, Appleseed, Malabar, and Springmill schools for 24 years. She spent a total of 34 years influencing the lives of many children before retiring in 1997 to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and dogs. After her husband's passing, she moved to Findlay, Ohio, in 2013 to be closer to family, and became a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. She was an important part of her grandsons' lives in Findlay and took great interest in their academic and athletic activities. She loved gardening, birdwatching, and trips to Lake Erie, and was a life-long Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State football fan.
Maryann was a devout Catholic. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mansfield, Ohio, and will be live-streamed on the Church's Facebook page. Visitation at the church will be one hour before Mass. Immediately following the service, burial will take place at Mansfield Memorial Park. Please follow Covid-19 precautions, wear a mask, and observe six-foot social distancing.
