Memorial Gathering The Old Bag of Nails 1671 N 21st St, Newark, OH 43055 Saturday, September 22 During The Ohio State -Tulane game Remembrance will take place at half time.
A memorial gathering celebrating the life of Bennett "Benny" Eckstein, age 71, of Newark, will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, at The Old Bag of Nails Pub, 1671 North 21st Street, Newark, and will continue throughout The Ohio State University vs. Tulane football game.
A special time of remembrance will be held during halftime, friends and family are encouraged to share memories in honor of Benny's life and his love of the game.
Bennett passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 12, 1946 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Bennett F. and Mary C. (Shuckhart) Eckstein.
Benny was devoted to his Ohio State Buckeyes and was a loyal brother of the Phi Alpha Beta Fraternity. He also loved his rock-n-roll, had quite an extensive music, movie and sports card collection and especially enjoyed watching the old westerns.
Bennett loved his children deeply, they were his world and that love will be sadly missed. A sports analyst of his own volition, Benny was best known as the John Madden of Tee Jays, but also held lengthy tenure with B&O Railroad, Bob Evans, Tee Jays and honorably served in the United States Army.
He is survived by two sons, William "Kyle" Hunt and Derek S. Eckstein; his daughter, Felicia C. Eckstein; three brothers, Bernard Eckstein, William “Bill” (Teresa) Eckstein, John (Fran) Eckstein; and Paul (Shannon) Foreman, Jr.; a sister, Diana Binckley; three grandchildren; three nieces, Anita Schonhuitt, Leona Binckley and Nicole (Foreman) Moore; and four nephews, William and Charles Chamberlin, Scott Eckstein and Scott Foreman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeannie C. and Barbara J. Eckstein, his nephew, Dale Binckley; and brother-in-law, Leo W. Binckley.
In honor of his service to this country, a military marker will be placed with his father and sister at the Mansfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Mansfield, Ohio.
The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the Eckstein family with arrangements.
