Obituary
Bellville: Conrad “Fred” Gaubatz III, age 84, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his Bellville home under the care of Kindred Hospice and surrounded by family.
Fred was born in Mansfield, Ohio on August 28, 1937 the son of Conrad Frederick Gaubatz II & Lenora Mae (Leach) Gaubatz and grew up in the Greenwhich area. He proudly joined the U.S. Navy in service of his country in 1955 and served for 8 years. He worked as a Welder for Mansfield Tire and The Tube in Shelby. He was also a good Mechanic and in later years worked as a Truck Driver with his own rig and more recently hauled milk locally.
Never meeting a stranger, Fred was known to frequent places around Bellville such as the V&M, Whitey’s Barbershop, and was even lovingly considered a “volunteer greeter” at the Possum Run Walmart. Fred was also a gun enthusiast, enjoyed welding and tinkering in his shop, spending time reading his Bible, and regaling anyone who would listen with stories about his times driving truck over the road. He was a simple, hardworking man who will be missed by many.
Fred is survived by children Russell (Bobbi) Gaubatz of Anchorage, Alaska, Julie (Fred) Sites of Bellville, Jill Erdenberger of Bellville, and David (Cindy) Gaubatz of Ashland; sister Judy Hatch of Texas, sixteen grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rex Gaubatz in 2014, and wives Judith Mae (Price) “Judy” Gaubatz in 1971, Norma Mae (Fair) Gaubatz in 1999, and Donna Jean (Spohn) Nethero “Jeanie” Gaubatz in 2010.
His family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Snyder Funeral Homes, Bellville Chapel (81 Mill Rd in Bellville), and again on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 10 am to 11 am, with the funeral service beginning at 11 am.
