Marilyn Jane “Penny” Pendelton Cutter Zappone passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Arlington Point in Middletown, Ohio. She was born in Mansfield, the daughter of the late Kenneth Monroe and Luella Mae (Hall) Pendleton. She was a 1948 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. Marilyn came from a hard working family. She began working as a teenager in her father’s grocery store, Pendleton’s Market on Marion Ave. in Mansfield. She was also employed by the O’Neil Company in the 1950’s, Sears and Roebuck and later in life, June’s Crown House in Ashland. However Marilyn spent most of her working years as a Certified Para Optometric working with Dr. William Paisley, O.D. for 22 years and Dr. James Patterson, O.D. for 3 years until retirement.
Her greatest accomplishment was raising three children with the help of her their father, her husband of forty-one years, Ron Cutter. Marilyn was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. “Mom” or Penny was also a second mother to all the friends and animals that her kids brought home.
Marilyn was then married to Ron Zappone, which they spent 20 years together enjoying their lives together, living in Florida, traveling the world, having great friendships, playing cards and drinking wine. After the death of her husband, Marilyn moved to Springboro, Ohio to be close to family.
Marilyn attended Peace Lutheran Church in Ashland. Also she was a past President of the Local Ashland Altrusa International and member of Prestige 55 in Ocala, Florida.
One on Marilyn’s favorite saying to her children was to enjoy each day and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Survivors include her Children, Marc Steven (Cynthia J.) Cutter, Julie Ann Cutter, and Lori J. (Tom R. Parrish) Cutter Schlueter; special daughters, Karen Simmons Namy and Julie Burkhart McCready; her grandchildren, Stephanie L. Cutter, Heidi L. ( James) Johnson, Elizabeth A. Cutter, Katherine E. Cutter, Molly A. (Mark) Cutter- McCorkle, Emily Ruth Irving, Michael James Irving, and Erin E. (George) Detrow- Cassaro; her great grandchildren, Marise L. Chappell, Jaxon Johnson, Kylee N. Sauerbrey, Caitlin M. McCorkle, Faith E. McCorkle, Samantha A. McCorkle, Annie Grace Cassaro, Henry Thomas Cassaro, and George Frank Cassaro; along with her brother, Kenneth (Lynne) Pendleton. Marilyn was also blessed with wonderful sister in-laws, Janice, Mary and Marty along with many nieces and nephews from both the Pendleton and Cutter Families.
In additions to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her First husband, Ronald Dale Cutter in 1991; her second husband, Ronald Dominic Zappone in 2016; and her brothers, Marion Monroe Pendleton and Phillip Bruce Pendleton.
Following Marilyn’s wishes there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at a later date for family and friends.
