Obituary
Richard Harold Ferrell, age 73, of Delaware, Ohio and formerly of Mansfield, Ohio, died unexpectedly at his home on December 26, 2021.
He was born on March 9, 1948 in Mansfield, Ohio to Keith and Evelyn Ferrell and graduated from Lexington High School in 1966. In 1969 he joined the United States Navy, serving on the USS Jonas Ingram(DD-938), and was honorably discharged in 1975.
In 1968, Richard began his career as a plumber and pipefitter. He worked for many years for The Charles Hoffman Co. in Mansfield, Ohio, and during the 1980’s he owned and ran his own plumbing company along with his wife. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 42 union in Norwalk, Ohio and retired after 40 years in the trade.
One of Richard’s lasting passions was for Scouting, with which he was actively involved for most of his life. As a youth, he was a member of Pack, Troop and Explorer Post 152 in Lexington Ohio, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1966. In the late 1970’s he became Cubmaster of Pack 152, and from 1985 to 1993 he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 152. He was active on the Troop Committee for many years after. Richard was an avid fisherman, and for many years he enjoyed camping, canoeing and travel in general.
Richard is survived by his beloved former spouse, Janet Ferrell of Mansfield, Ohio, son Jeremy (Shanda)Ferrell of Delaware, Ohio, daughter Rachel(Chip)Tweedy of Centerburg, Ohio, son Michael Ferrell of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and son Evan(Lauren)Ferrell of Mansfield, Ohio, as well as his seven grandchildren Taylor, Kegen, Brendan, Ethan, Kaya, Kimberlee and Addelyn, and his great-grandson Caleb.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jon Smith of Mansfield, Ohio, and his sister Joyce Kelly of Redding, California.
The family will be holding private services but the live stream will be able to be found on the Lexington Avenue Facebook page Wednesday, January 5, 2022 begining at 11 am. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held at a later date for all to attend.
