Obituary
MANSFIELD: If Gary Bowman said it – he’d do it! He was a promise-keeper for whom uprightness was a lifestyle, and he embodied trust, loyalty and honesty. Gary was an honorable man who prioritized God, County and Family – a man who sought wisdom to know the right path and the integrity to always take it.
The Lord called Gary to Himself Sunday morning December 12, 2021 from his Mansfield home, surrounded by family. He was 70.
Born April 12, 1951 in Mansfield to parents Charles A. and Lois Maxine (Grove) Bowman, he was graduated from Crestview High School in 1970.
Gary had a genuine hardworking work ethic, and a content spirit – he’d prefer to fix anything than replace it – and spent hours keeping his landscaping “nice and neat.”
Remembered as a “worker” Gary retired in 2016 with 31 years as a tool and die maker with RR Donnelley & Son in Willard as well as operating a residential rental company.
Ohio State Football game day was a seasonal highlight, and Gary inherited a love for Ford Automotive from his father, owning both a 1926 Model T and a 1935 Convertible.
For decades, Gary was an active member of Ontario Christian Fellowship, serving the congregation as Deacon, usher, communion server, Sunday school superintendent, and in the small group and Promise Keepers ministries.
Beyond all of his work and activities, Gary’s legacy will be his deep love for his family.
He is survived by his wife Joy (Thurber) Bowman; their children Rhonda (Gary) Walker of Lucas, Adam Bowman of Galion, Kristina Walters of Bellville and Hannah Benson of New York, NY; stepson Jason Hamilton of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Hunter Harris, Heath Harris, Alexis Walters, and Brennan Horn; brothers Charles L. (Fran) Bowman of Mansfield and Larry D. (Shirley) Bowman of Ontario; sister Patti (Steve) Hammond of Brownsburg, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Cruz Bowman.
The Bowman family will receive guests Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at the funeral home.
