Obituary
Kathleen "Kathy" G. Gessling
July 4, 1927 - February 11, 2021
Kathleen “Kathy” G. Gessling, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family early Thursday morning, February 11, 2021, at the home of her daughter in Mansfield.
Born July 4, 1927, in Dalton, Georgia, she was one of four daughters of the late Jack and Tennie Sue (Holcomb) Morgan. Her birthday fit her personality perfectly as Kathy was a firecracker. She was boisterous, enjoyed a good party, and was naturally the center of attention wherever she went. Kathy was a true people person and immediately won over everyone in the room. Her magnetic personality was contagious and you couldn’t help but be happy in her presence. On May 9, 1952, she married Frank Gessling, and they shared a beautiful love story for 45 years. Kathy was lucky enough to have found love again with Bob Mellott and affectionately called him her “second” husband. She was very proud of her family, and absolutely adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Kathy had many friends and was active her entire life. She was still on the golf course perfecting her game last summer at the age of 93. She was a compassionate caseworker at Richland County Job and Family Services for many years until finally retiring to enjoy her free time. Kathy’s legacy is one of love, compassion, humor, and enjoying life to the fullest! We will miss her laugh, smile, and endless energy every day.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cindy Roseberry and Sherry Riggenbach; daughter-in-law, Fabiola Gessling; five grandchildren, Ryan (Lesley) Roseberry, Chad (Allie) Fisher, Koriann Riggenbach (Vince Sidoti), Johanna (Bobby) Hermida and Gabby (Matias) Hermida; six great-grandchildren, Bella, Alex and Maddy Roseberry, Owen Fisher, Vicky and Benji; many beloved nieces and nephews; extended family, Fred and Lisa Cains, Angela (Nate) Wyatt, Brandy (Narciso), Cody and Zach Cains, Cohen, Duke and Breigha. She is also survived by Bob’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren she considered her own: Brent (Janet) Mellott and their children, Jessica Mellott, Jared (Emily) Mellott, and their grandchildren, Owen and Monroe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Alton Gessling; son, Jeff Gessling; second “husband”, Bob Mellott; and sisters, Margaret Griffin, Jackie Miragliotta and Brenda Smith.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Ron Biddle will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to S.T.O.P. Stop the Overpopulation of Pets.
