Obituary
Linda J. Grogg
August 24, 1941 ? September 12, 2019
Mansfield, Ohio
Linda Joan Grogg, age 78, peacefully passed away September 12, 2019 in her Mansfield home with her devoted husband and family by her side. Her courageous 14-year battle with cancer has ended and she is home with her Lord & Savior.
She was born August 24, 1941 to parents Charles E. & Hildred C. (Goodheart) Shatzer in Wheeling, West Virginia and graduated from Mansfield Senior High with the class of 1959. She met a handsome young man named Gordon Grogg when she was still in high school. He would take her and her friends to the Friendly House in his brand new 1955 Plymouth Belvidere red and black hardtop convertible. Linda was smitten and the pair married on September 18, 1960 at First Christian Church in Mansfield.
In addition to being “Mom” to her kids Traci and Todd, Linda worked several jobs over the years including: bank teller, grocery clerk, and photo developer, but she especially enjoyed working as a receptionist for Sawyer Chiropractic. As much as she enjoyed being a mother, Linda loved being “Nana” to her grandkids and great-grandkids even more. Family and friends will remember her delicious caramel iced cakes and Texas sheet cakes, and her ultimate specialty: Skillet Cake. She was a member of a sewing club and had a knack for crafting and Swedish embroidery.
Everyone who has met Linda describes her as a sweet and incredibly loving woman. Family was everything to her and she dearly loved her pets and spending time working on her flowers. She enjoyed getting together with friends to play pinochle and in years past, she set aside time each week to do her mom’s hair. Linda was a longtime member of First Christian Church and she and Gordon found lifelong friends in their Sunday school class.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 59 years, Gordon Grogg of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law Traci & Jeff McQuillen of Mt. Gilead; son Todd Grogg of Mansfield; six grandchildren Kieyra (Rodney) Thrush, Andrew (Alyssa) McQuillen, Morgen McQuillen (and special friend Alivia Eckard), Kristin (Brian) Bethany, Delaney Grogg, and Madeline Grogg; six great-grandchildren Hailly, Marley, Blakely, & Charlee Thrush, and Grayson & Addelyn Bethany; special adopted grandson Avery Tishue; sister Jean Wendland of Mansfield; brother and sister-in-law David & Sharon Shatzer of Lexington; brothers-in-law Duane & Jeannie Grogg, Ernest “Ernie” & Linda Grogg, and Gene & Nancy Grogg; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Charles & Hildred Shatzer and great-grandson Brody Thrush.
The Grogg family would like to thank Dr. Das and the entire Mansfield Cleveland Clinic staff along with OhioHealth Hospice for the care they provided to Linda. You all made her feel like family and gave her a positive outlook, and most importantly, gave her more time to spend with her family. Your work is so very appreciated.
The family will host a public memorial service 11 am Saturday, September 14, 2019 at First Christian Church (200 W 3rd St, Mansfield, OH 44902) officiated by Rev. Gregory Bibler. Her final resting place will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
