Obituary
Howard Ellsworth Snider, 87, of Bellville, died March 11, 2014.
A priceless father, a priceless friend.
Some people collect stamps, some people collect coins. But Howard collected friends. From Rhode Island to Ohio, to Colorado and Texas, from California to Hawaii, Howard had friends no matter how near or far from home.
He was born in Lucas and graduated from Lucas High School. Howard went to school in Kansas City and Rhode Island for TV and radio. He worked at Sears, Phoenix Electric, and retired from Stone Container where he was a master electrician. Howard also taught classes at JVS Pioneer School. One of Howard's passions was going to garage sales and estate sales. He also loved telling jokes and was known for swapping corny jokes with all his acquaintances. Another loved hobby was growing yellow raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and gooseberries. He planted chestnut trees and paw-paw trees as well.
Howard was born to Esther and Glen Snider on May 28, 1926. He married Mary Katherine Albro on January 12, 1946 in Mansfield. Howard was a member of Mansfield South Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.
Howard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Snider; son, Richard (Lois) Snider; daughters, Judy Snider and Debbie (Jeff) Snider-Chase, both of Mansfield, and Mary Jo (Charles) Snider-Hite of CA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Rob Snider, Brandy (John) Watson, Alicia (David) Dechert, and Joseph (Sarah) Napoli; and great grandchildren, Allene and Wyatt Watson, Hayliegh Tucker, Jayden McClain, and Katie Snider. Howard is also survived by Marilyn (Jim) Schunatz, his sister in Texas, and their four children, Nick, Jim, Mark, and Truly.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Sandra Snider.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd., Ontario.
