Obituary
Jeffrey Lee Roberts, 80, of Port Clinton and formerly of Mansfield, passed away suddenly on November 21 after a cardiac event.
Jeff was born on June 26, 1941 to Reginald and Margaret (Kelley) Roberts in Newark, Ohio. After Jeff graduated from Newark High School in 1960, he went on to get his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from The Ohio State University in 1964.
He started his long teaching career at Lexington High School in 1964, where he taught math for 38 years. Jeff also served as Athletic Director as well as a football and track coach at Lexington High School. After Jeff retired in 2002, he went back into the classroom immediately teaching math at both St. Peter’s High School and Lexington High School for another 5 years.
In the process of getting his Master’s Degree in Education from Ashland University, Jeff wrote a Mathematics Textbook entitled “Advanced Math for Advanced Minds.” He went on to use this textbook for many years in teaching his students at Lexington.
While coaching football at Lexington, Jeff met and fell in love with a young new band director at the school, Betty Meredith. He knew she was the one since he found himself thinking of her instead of coaching the team. They were married in 1969 and spent a happy 52 years together as husband and wife. They went on to have two children, Chad and Beau, and they enjoyed many years of following their various activities.
Jeff enjoyed spending summers with his family at their lake house on Lake Erie. He relished many years of boating and fishing on their various boats and jet skis. It was not uncommon to find Jeff reading a good book on a boat or the beach. He was an avid football fan, and he followed the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns for most of his life.
Jeff was an active member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church for many years. He served the church as an elder, and he also sang in the church choir.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Chad (Christa) & Beau; grandchildren, Colin & Riley. Preceding him in death were his father, Reginald; mother, Margaret Board; brother, Dale.
Visitation will be held at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave, Mansfield, OH 44904 on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
