Alpha “Jay” Pyles, 78, of Mansfield, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 2, 2020.
Jay was born on December 3, 1941, on Newcome Creek, Wayne, WV, to James “Ralph” and Aletha (Adkins) Pyles. He started his working career at Porter’s Sunoco gas station. The rest of his career was ITT Galion, then Peco II Galion. Jay worked 42 years in Galion starting at the bottom and worked to be manager. He married the love of his life, Vicki Stallard Pyles on August 18, 1962. His proud accomplishments were his daughters and grandchildren. He was a ham radio operator and obtained the advanced license. He loved gardening, and worked on TV’s and radios in his younger years. He loved his stray cats, Lightning and Bro. Lightning became his inside companion. He cherished family gatherings. Jay was a member of Mansfield Church of God and faithfully attended until his health declined.
Along with Vicki, his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his children, Jamie (Jim) Henry and Jenny (David) Schmucker; two grandchildren, Justin Henry and Jordyn Henry; one sister, Arbutus Pratt; and several nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Fisher Pyles, Elton Pyles, Namon Pyles, and Jennings Pyles; and three sisters, Mary Porter, Esther Porter, and Fern Arrowood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following charities: Richland County Humane Society, 3025 Park Ave. West, Mansfield, OH 44906; Hospice of North Central Ohio, 371 Cline Ave, Mansfield, OH 44907; or Ontario Lions Club, 3777 Park Ave. West, Ontario, OH 44906.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Mansfield Memorial Park, with Pastor Tim Houston officiating.
