Obituary
David F. Brooks, 55, of Mansfield, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, after a long, hard battle with cancer.
David was born on December 7, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio to Denzil F. and Helen A. (Turner) Brooks. David was a 1984 graduate of Lucas High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from September 1985 to September 1987 as a Hawk Fire Control Crewmember and received the Army Lapel Button, Army Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge, and Army Good Conduct Medal. David is survived by his wife of 21 years, Retha (Love) Brooks, whom he married on March 4, 2000. He loved his family and was instrumental in matchmaking his sister, Kathy and her husband, Ray. He worked with Ray at R and K Towing until 2013, when his illness caused him to retire. He was a good standing member of New Beginnings Baptist Church on Stiving Road. David loved his nieces and nephews and never missed any events that they were in at school. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles in his spare time.
Along with his loving wife, he is survived by his sisters, Kathy (Ray) Van Pelt and Wendy (Mitch) Shopbell, both of Mansfield, and Carolyn (Daniel) Withrow of Elkview, WV as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Karen (Rob) Marcum.
Calling hours will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021, at Mansfield Baptist Temple, 752 N. Stewart Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Robert J. Kurtz officiating. Military honors will be performed by R.C. Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will be at Mansfield Memorial Park.
