Vivian Jane Gilbert, age 86, passed away on May 12, 2023, at Ontario Estates Senior Living. She was born on June 10, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Vaughn Gustin and Margaret Jane (Koepge) Gustin.
Vivian was a 1954 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and worked for several companies including Mansfield Telephone Co., Swallen's department store, T.J. Maxx, and Lew Petit Driving School. As a devoted mother, Vivian cherished her role as a homemaker and found immense joy in raising her two children. Being a mom and a grandma were her favorite jobs, and she poured her love and care into her family.
Vivian will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness, and her love for all God’s creatures. She had a heart of gold and was known as one of the kindest and sweetest individuals. Watching CSI or Law & Order was a favorite activity and she also enjoyed yardwork and creating a beautiful outdoor space. Vivian was a passionate supporter of Cleveland sports teams, including the Indians, Cavs, and Browns.
During holidays, Vivian hosted family gatherings, where she created cherished memories and delicious meals. Her Thanksgiving dressing, Christmas cutout cookies, and iced tea were family favorites and a source of joy for all who indulged in them.
Vivian is survived by her son, Brett Gilbert of Urbana, Ohio, and daughter, Doreen (Tod) Petit of Mansfield, Ohio. She also leaves behind her grandsons, Kaden and Hunter Petit, along with numerous nieces & nephews. Additionally, she had a circle of close friends, including Barb Petit, Pam Stiving, and Don & Carol Burdine, who provided companionship and support throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother Vaughn Gustin; sister-in-law Lois Gustin; grandfather James P. Gills “Pappy”; daughter-in-law Lori Gilbert; and her beloved kitty Max.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Snyder Funeral Homes, Marion Avenue Chapel, 350 Marion Ave, Mansfield, Ohio 44903. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the same location, followed by burial at Mansfield Memorial Park in Ontario. Pastor Christine Bell of Ontario United Methodist will officiate.
Vivian's family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Ontario Estates Senior Living and SouthernCare Hospice for their compassionate care.
