Paul Barnett Birmelin, 88, of Martins Ferry, OH Formerly of Mansfield, OH crossed over on May 13, 2023. Paul was a native of Mansfield, Ohio born on August 1, 1934, to Russel G. and Mildred G. (Picking) Birmelin. Paul graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1953. He was a retired foreman of AK Steel Mansfield, formerly Empire-Detroit Steel and Armco Steel, where he had worked for many years in the slab yard. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, flea markets with his family and friends, but he enjoyed being part of the east of the river Shawnee Tribe, where he was Bear Clan Chief. He is survived by his wife, Barbara E. (Edwards) Birmelin, of 68 years; two daughters, Tracy Pearson (Wendy Overly) of Martins Ferry, OH, and Lois Hess of Mansfield, OH; a son, Michael (Yvonne) Birmelin of Temecula, CA, and two grandsons, Keith Akam (Tiffany Lynn) of Vermilion, OH, and Andrew Birmelin of Temecula, CA; four great grandchildren, Haley, Dean, Kinleigh, and Jordan of Vermilion, OH. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 pm at Mansfield Memorial Park 2507 Park Ave W, Ontario, OH 44906. Schuetz Funeral home is assisting the family.
