William Eayre Flinn
Troy, AL - William Eayre Flinn, 76, died Friday, February 7, 2020 in his home in Troy, Alabama.
Dr. Flinn was born in Mansfield, July 9, 1943 to William E. and Dorothy Bacon Flinn. He was married to Marcia Sweda Flinn for 32 years, who preceded him in death, as did his brother, Malcolm A. Flinn of Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Flinn of Troy and his son, Douglas M. Flinn (Shirley) and their 4 children, Erik, Kyle, Joel, and Ellie of Monument, CO.. And his daughter Angela Flinn Carver (Jeffrey) and their 2 children Samantha and Madelyn of Morgantown, WV. He is also survived by his siblings Celia J. Flinn and Edwin (Ned) K. Flinn of Mansfield.
Bill graduated from Mansfield Senior High, and received his Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green University and his Masters and PhD in Educational Communication and Technology from Ohio State University. He was a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, serving for 22 years and retiring in 1989 as the Group Commander of the 3350 Technical Training Group at Chanute AFB, Illinois. He was a recipient of the Legion of Merit and other medals, and served in the Air Training Command developing ROTC curricula. He was at the Headquarters Pacific Air Command and lead the Community College of the Air Force as Commandant.
He then went on with academic appointments at Ball State University in Indiana and continued on as the Vice Chancellor of Troy University.
His funeral was Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Troy Alabama.
A private memorial service is being scheduled in Mansfield at a later date.
