Obituary
Mary Margaret Hammett, a lifetime resident of Mansfield, departed this life on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the age of 95.
Margaret was born on September 23, 1927 to Helen and Earl Kochheiser and grew up with two brothers: Robert (deceased) and her beloved Charles (Nancy). She was kind and accepting of everyone she met and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Margaret attended The Ohio State University where she studied education and became a legacy member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She finished her degree at Ashland University where she carried a 4.0 average. After her marriage in 1948, she had four children: Kenneth (Shereen) Hammett, Marilyn Sanchez, Laurie Kennedy and Steve Hammett. She also raised two grandchildren: Melissa Hamen and Charlie Adcock.
Mansfield General Hospital was lucky to have her work there for 25 years as a medical transcriptionist. Margaret was an avid reader, puzzler, and scrabble player. She also enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to a group called "Pinheads." Margaret belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Mansfield where she was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Many of her closest friends sat beside her in those pews. She was an active member of Lexington Seniors Group where she served as their secretary for many years and also belonged to the Cosmopolitan Club where she took over for her mother as president.
In addition to her children, she is survived by five grandchildren: John (Ashley) Hammett, Melissa (Eric) Hamen, Charlie (Janetta) Adcock, Nickole (Matthew) Tara, Meredith (Sam) Steinbeck; ten great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Logan, Tony, Danny, Maggy, Ophelia, Charlie, William, Wyatt and Sloane.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 399 S. Trimble Road, Mansfield, OH 44906 with calling hours at 10:00am and the service at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors or any other Veteran’s Organization.
