MANSFIELD: Brian Phelps passed away Tuesday morning, July 30, 2019 in Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital. He was 44.
He was born February 27, 1975 in Mansfield to parents Jeffrey Phelps & Sharon (Fanello) Fagan. It was in the third grade that Brian first met the love of his life, Kathy Hammond. She made a lasting impression on him, and convinced he would marry her one day, he promptly informed his mother of his intentions. They lost touch and reconnected numerous times through the years before marrying in 1997 and remained married for 22 years until his passing.
In their early years of marriage they traveled the country as Brian followed NASCAR events promoting FastWax and breaking sales records regularly. He would often take delight in visiting the pits, and even the winner’s circle and proudly shared that experience with his Dad on Father’s Day. When their family began to grow they settled in Ohio and Brian launched his own company, ROCKSource Drywall Specialists, a successful business of 15 years. They built the home they lived in as a family, building unforgettable memories as he passed onto his sons his knowledge and instilled in them a strong work ethic.
Brian loved food. Rather, he loved food made his way. No matter where he was, he would take over the grill so that the food was “done right.” Sunday breakfast was a known tradition and all were welcomed and invited. He was the short-order cook of his kitchen, making any one exactly what they wanted.
He was quite the comedian, too. There was never a moment when he didn’t find and share humor in any situation! He didn’t mind embarrassing himself for laughs. Through this, he taught those who knew him not to care too much about what others think.
More than anything, Brian cherished his family. He fiercely protected and loved his wife and children. His sons were his pride and joy. He dearly loved his parents, brothers, nieces, nephews, and close extended family, as well as his special cat, Baby- all who meant the world to him.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Phelps; sons Kross Phelps and Kragen Phelps; Joseph Smith; brothers Jeff Phelps, Jason (Corinna) Phelps, sister-in-law Crystal Phelps, and brother and sister-in-law Kelly (Teresa) Hammond; grandmother Mary Phelps, mother Sharon Fagan; cousins Erik Stoltenberg, Kelly Fanello and Jody Johnson; 11 nieces and nephews; 7 great-nieces and nephews; aunt Shirley Fanello; uncle Jim Fanello; uncles Kevin and Steve Phelps .
Brian was preceded in death by his father Jeffrey Michael Phelps; grandfather Orville “Bud” Phelps; grandparents Peg and Rocco Fanello; and aunt Linda Fanello.
A private service was held in Brian’s memory and honored the great impact he had on all who knew him. His family hopes that you will hold him in your heart as you remember him in your own special way.
