MANSFIELD: Thomas Howard Shay, Jr., passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 in Country Club Rehabilitation Campus at Mt. Vernon. He was 92.
Tom was born June 19, 1929 in Hyde Park, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Ethel (Fouse) Shay and attended Leechburg High School.
A Korean War veteran, Tom served four years and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a member of American Legion #88 in Ashland, and was affiliated with the Korean War Veterans of Richland County.
For over 36 years Tom was a lineman with Ohio Edison.
On June 7, 1979 he married Hazel (Donelson) Twitchell with whom he celebrated 42 years.
In retirement he enjoyed playing golf and euchre. Tom was a long-time Penn State fan and enjoyed dogs.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Rachel (Carl) Habel, Jack (Patty) Shay, Rick (Julie) Shay, and Tommy (Lacey) Shay; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Elma “Tick” Snyder and Emma “Betty” Riley.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 2 pm in Mansfield Memorial Park. The Rev. Katherine Pennington will officiate. Friends unable to attend may join virtually at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home Facebook page.
